Postcard # 14

Autumn
Tumbling Water
Decaying Building

It’s all fall

But the mountains stand tall.
If they would move,

God is still our refuge and strength.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.  Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.

Postcard # 13

Oh My!

The happy black bear
dances through the dandelions,
spilled yellow paint
across the valley floor.
He thinks he found the yellow brick road.
He looks for lions,
tigers,
and Dorothy.
Oh my!

Colorado

The word “color” seems
to stand out in Colorado today,
Not just red,
but blues, white, silver, grays,
oranges, purples, yellows, greens,
painting my soul,
allowing it to sing in harmony
with God and the angels.

Skiing

Strap on skis
Grab poles and push off
Heart races
Snow flies out
Mountain scenery speeds by
You made it!
Stop and look back and up
As the ant-like skiers approach

Sing me a song with colors
Tell me a story with melody
And I’ll dance to the music of your soul.

Little Blessings

In situations as harsh as the highest mountains,
 it’s the little things,
like wildflowers, butterflies and bird songs
that brightens a person’s day.

When Dad had Alzheimer’s,
he forgot it wasn’t manly
to say, “I love you,”
or bring roses from the garden.

Colorado Romance

Walking hand in hand
Talking heart to heart
Our feet crunch crispy leaves,
while aspens rattle their castanets.
Doves call in their rhythmic, low voices.
A lake mirrors Colorado wonders,
including two people in love.

Colorado

Blue sky tints mountainous mounds purple.
Pine trees trudge up their sides.
It takes elegant effort
just to breathe in the beauty.

Nature

We walked toward the golden sunset.
A bare tree protruded from the earth
at a sixty degree angle,
its limbs curved like snakes,
tapered and spread out like veins
in an oldster’s hand.
Surrounding it, lively bushes
swayed in the breeze,
like a host of youngsters
giving homage to the aged.
I wish people were more like that.

He never knew a wrong from right
He hurt and stole from those around
He bothers no one in the ground

Wee Hours

The house is still asleep.
Peaceful.
It’s dark outside.
The stove light seems bright,
as well as the green numbers
on the clock, stereo and microwave.
I sit in my comfy chair
with my laptop glowing
and my cat purring on my lap.
There’s a chill in the air
and my bare legs are covered
by an afghan my sister had crocheted.
The only sounds are the clock ticking
the refrigerator humming
and an occasional creak of the house.
Knick-knacks, furniture, pictures on the wall
are all just shadows.
I sip the last of my hot tea with cream and sugar.
Maybe I can get some more writing in
before the troops arise.

Poetic Asides Beauty

Beauty’s Sting

When I view lovely mountains,
those white-topped purple tents.
Or the ocean rolling rumbling vast and deep,
hiding  wondrous worlds.
Or the desert with Saguaro
stretching their limbs toward Heaven.
I hurt with regret
of not being immersed in beauty more often.
I make a promise to myself
that I seldom keep.

The Mountain Pass

The fierce winds blew the snow across the road
The posts along the way, her only guide
Her windshield cracked that morning at the side
Beneath the empty air, the river flowed

She carefully ascended up the pass
She thought of her two children in the back
For them she must continue on the track
Her reverie, for certain, didn’t last

The snow and wind blasts whittled on her nerves
Her life before just seemed to fade away
She pictured her car plunging in the gray
As she prevailed upon the mountain curves

The fierce winds blew the snow across the road
The hungry mountain pass had been denied
Beneath the empty air, the river flowed

CB wordle of sorts

Morning Tea

The smell of burning leaves
Jarred me from my reverie
I took a bite of my muffin
And sipped my hot spiced tea

It was smooth as a jaguar
Strong as a slab of beef
I won’t harp on it anymore
But I tag this tea as chief

Next in Line

Where do you go
to stand in the Grandma line?
I should be next.
All my friends are posting
their little cherubs’
 pictures on Facebook,
buying toys at Wal-Mart
and browsing through
those cute little onesies.
I’d be standing there
tapping my toes,
reading magazines,
and all those things
you do waiting in line.
Hoping someone will say,
“Next!”

O, why can’t it always be autumn?
Sunny afternoons, chilly nights
Crispy, crackling, swishing leaves
Inciting adventure

CB eavesdropping

Sunday Morning

I should have brought your hairbrush out.
I don’t know if he’s going to be in there long or not.
We’ve got lots of time before we go.
Still have to give him his pills.
One more Luna bite.

I wonder if he’s aggravated at me
as I sit here and write a poem
while he gets our duo ready to go out the door.
He doesn’t know that I’m tired, and right now,
I’d just as soon go back to bed than to church.

Unretired
Though she’s supposed to be retired
A pastor’s wife may be recalled
When hubby’s service is required
She smiles as she is reinstalled
She thought those fish bowl days were past
A pastor’s wife may be recalled
Had hoped the quiet times would last
Although she thrived as pastor’s wife
She thought those fish bowl days were past
At first, she balked at public life
A shy farm girl, she had her dreams
Although she thrived as pastor’s wife
She’s happy though, or so it seems
She graciously gives her support
A shy farm girl, she had her dreams
Above all she obeys the Lord
Though she’s supposed to be retired
She graciously gives her support
When hubby’s service is required

Indecisiveness

Egg laying
young nursing,
duck-billed,
beaver-tailed,
otter-footed,
venomous,
furry but waterproof

Seems like it’s not quite sure what it wants to be.
Just like me.

CB prompt A dream

Maybe Someday

My husband and I travel in the summers
(and enjoy it)
in our brand new motor home
(remember this is a dream).
We go to churches across the nation,
(stay a week or so)
paint murals in Sunday School rooms,
sing at services and write stories
of God’s workings in individual members
(Miracles Among Us).
We use our millions we make
(don’t laugh)
to help ministries help others.

CB prompt

Multifaceted Family

If you pulled my four sisters
and I aside individually and asked
us to describe our growing up years,
our mom and dad, each other,
our friends and relatives, our house,
our country neighborhood,
the things we did for fun,
how we celebrated birthdays and holidays,
how we spent vacations,
our financial situation,
what we were allowed to do,
what we got in trouble for,
the problems we faced,
how we handled chores,
meal times, school work,
what Dad and Mom taught us,
we’d sound like we came
from five different families.
I’m always surprised
when we get together and reminisce,
and it gets odder as we get older.

Creative Bloomings Christmas memory

Christmas Memory

I remember the Christmas
we had hamburgers.
No tree. No decorations.
Well, maybe a string of lights.
My tummy resembled
a Christmas turkey,
three days before my daughter was born.
Got a phone call.
Grandma Peters died.
No, we’re not going to the funeral.
Waiting for our Christmas present
to make her entrance
into the world.
We brought her home
in a Christmas stocking.

Party?
Not hardly.
Visiting daughter
who has to get up at four AM.
I planned to whisper
Happy New Year
to my husband,
but instead
I fell asleep at ten.
